Mo Dave

David A. Johnson, better known as DJ Modav, was born and raised in Chicago in the 1970’s during the early days of hip hop, the beginning of house music, and of course classic R&B and Soul.  In 1990, wanting a better chance to actually play records for a living, MoDav headed west to Los Angeles and went on to become one of the west coast’s most prominent club and mix-tape DJ’s and radio personalities.

In 2000, after more than two decades of playing venues throughout Southern California and with over three decades of playing music across the globe, DJ MoDav began working with the legendary Dee Dee “Spinderella” Roper, member of the iconic rap group Salt-n-Pepa and one of the most sought after DJ’s in the world.

For over a decade, DJ MoDav has co-hosted and produced two internationally syndicated radio shows with Spinderella, including the number one hit-radio-show The Backspin, a nationally syndicated radio show that highlights the best of classic Hip-Hop and R&B.  The Backspin currently holds the number one spot in the demographic of African-American women between 25-54 on Old School 945 (Dallas) and is home to audiences in major markets such as Boston and Portland.

During this time, in 2003, DJ MoDave and Spinderella held down the highly rated afternoon drive on 100.3 The Beat and have since toured extensively playing some of the biggest venues in America and around the world.  Together, MoDav and Spinderella have branded a quintessential name for themselves by performing at almost every major scale event, including events for Nike, ESPN, the Academy Awards, Kentucky Derby, and the NBA All Star Game.

Throughout his career, DJ MoDav has collaborated with some of the most sought after talent in Hip Hop, including Ice-Cube, DJ Rectangle, and The Baka Boys, to name just a few.  Through all the critical acclaim and recognition, DJ MoDav’s best asset continues to be his vast knowledge of all types of music and his constant exposure to an ever widening audience.  Specializing in Old School Hip Hop and R&B, as well as current club joints, MoDav has become internationally known for keeping the party movin’ no matter who’s in the building.

All interviews, speaking engagements, or booking requests should be sent to whoismodav@gmail.com.
