He was born in Chicago on this day in 1933. Quincy Delight Jones Jr. was encouraged to explore music by his teenage friend Ray Charles. Jones played in various band in the 50′s and began composing for film and television in the mid 60′s, eventually he would produce over 60 scores. He became the most Grammy-nominated artist in history with 79 nods, winning 27 of them and honored with the Grammy Legend Award in 1991. He also produced The World’s Best selling album of all time, Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
