Hall of Famer Troy Aikman says it might be time to find the future replacement for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
While Aikman is still supportive of Romo, who has a 55-38 regular-season record, he said during an NFL.com chat on Thursday that drafting a quarterback in April should be a priority for the Cowboys
“I like the way the Packers did it all those years,” Aikman said of a Green Bay team that has drafted 12 quarterbacks since 1992. “To bring a guy in essentially every season, whether you draft him in the fourth round or fifth round or third round, whatever it might be. I think there’s something to be said for that.”
After Aikman retired following the 2000 season, the Cowboys drafted three quarterbacks and started 11 different QBs.
Romo, meanwhile, has become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. However, he’s 1-3 in the postseason and 1-6 in win-or-go-home games, which has raised concerns about his ability to lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl.
