Well, well well. It looks like Burger Kingand the powers that be didn’t pull Mary J. Blige’s chicken coon commercial because of all the complaints and expressions of oppression from the black community. They pulled it because of music licensing. I don’t know how commercials are usually handled, but I’m pretty sure you have to get music licenses before you shoot, edit and premiere.
Burger King hopes to have their ad back up soon, but did not comment on whether the ad would still feature Mary’s soulful croon about crispy chicken. Convenient.
